Alba, Nebbiolo & Silk: The Story Behind the “Nebbiolo” Pocket Square Collection
Nebbiolo & Silk: A Pocket Square Collection Inspired by Italian Wine and Craftsmanship
In Italy, when November arrives we often think of the fragrant hunt for the white truffle of Alba — a time when gourmets from all over the world gather under the foggy hills of Piedmont. But Alba is not just the truffle capital: it has also been officially designated the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2027.
And nestled in that same land is the grape variety Nebbiolo — a wine that embodies structure, elegance and aroma in a way rare among reds. It’s the soul of Barolo and Barbaresco, known for its balance of strength and finesse, for perfumes that evolve from fruit to flowers, from spice to leather and truffle.
It is from this interplay of culture, terroir and craftsmanship that we at Serà Fine Silk drew inspiration for our new “Nebbiolo” Pocket Square Collection.
Each piece is crafted in Como from the finest Italian silk, hand-rolled at the edge, and designed to mirror the aromas of Nebbiolo wine — cherry, rose petal, violet, mint, leather, truffle.
Why Nebbiolo? A few notable characteristics
• Origin: Nebbiolo grapes thrive in the Piedmont region, particularly in the Langhe hills and around Alba.
• Character: The wines are known for high acidity, firm tannins, and a delicate but complex aromatic profile — dried rose petals, violets, wild herbs, cherries, raspberries, and sometimes leather and truffles.
• Colour paradox: In the glass, Nebbiolo often appears pale or translucent despite being an intense, full-bodied wine.
• Evolution: As it ages, the rim turns garnet, and aromas grow earthier and more refined — just like true craftsmanship that gains depth over time.
The Pocket Square That Tells a Story
Every hand-rolled silk pocket square in our Nebbiolo Collection is conceived to reflect a specific aroma found in this iconic wine.
Each design is drawn by hand in our Milan studio, then woven and finished in Como — the world’s capital of silk. The hand-rolled edge alone can take up to 45 minutes per piece, giving every pocket square unique volume, softness, and elegance.

Truffle Nebbiolo pocket square
Earthy and rich, this pocket square captures the essence of white truffle season in Alba.
Its palette — dark browns and blacks with lighter “scaglie” of ivory and tan — recalls the outer skin and pale core of freshly sliced truffle. The pattern plays with light, evoking the texture of the soil from which the truffle emerges.
Pair it with a charcoal tweed blazer or camel coat — an homage to Piedmont’s countryside sophistication.
Mint Nebbiolo silk pocket square
Inspired by the subtle note of fresh mint that lifts the aroma of some Nebbiolo wines.
A blend of green tones with violet accents mirrors this refreshing nuance. It’s lively yet balanced — perfect tucked into a navy blazer or grey flannel jacket for a touch of vitality in colder months.
Cherry Nebbiolo silk pocket square
Bright and full of energy, this design channels the cherry and raspberry aromas that define young Nebbiolo.
In deep ruby red with small green details, it’s vibrant yet elegant — ideal with a grey or navy suit, or even with a denim shirt for a refined casual twist.
Leather Nebbiolo pocket square
Evoking the aged, warm notes of leather and oak barrels, this pocket square comes in pumpkin orange and copper hues.
It recalls the tactile feel of well-worn Italian leather — timeless, supple, and full of character.
Style it with brown accessories and a camel overcoat for an effortlessly coordinated autumn look.
Rose Nebbiolo silk pocket square
A tribute to the rose-petal aromas in Nebbiolo — and to the tradition of planting rose bushes at the end of each vineyard row to warn winemakers of disease and protect the vines.
In soft pinks, pale yellows, and muted greens, the Rose Nebbiolo embodies both beauty and purpose.
Perfect for spring occasions or light-colored suits, it brings gentle sophistication to any ensemble.
Violet Nebbiolo pocket square
The floral heart of the wine, reimagined in silk.
In deep violet with lilac and lavender highlights, this design pays homage to the delicate yet powerful aroma of the Nebbiolo grape itself.
It pairs beautifully with charcoal or navy suits, adding a touch of poetic refinement to evening looks.
How to Wear It — and Why It Matters
When you tuck a Nebbiolo pocket square into your jacket, you’re not simply adding colour — you’re wearing a fragment of Italy: the foggy vineyards of Alba, the scent of truffles, the warmth of leather, the freshness of mint.
• Pair your Mint Nebbiolo with a navy suit for a cool-toned contrast.
• Match Truffle Nebbiolo with a brown or camel coat to highlight the earthy palette.
• Use Rose or Violet Nebbiolo to brighten neutral outfits or echo a silk tie.
Because Como silk catches the light and drapes fluidly, each square enhances the outfit without effort — the final brushstroke of Italian artistry.
From Francesca, Founder of Serà Fine Silk
“For me, autumn in Italy means a glass of Nebbiolo and a plate of tajarin al tartufo bianco.
This collection captures that feeling — the scent of truffle, the warmth of wine, the elegance of silk.
It’s a small piece of Piedmont to wear wherever you go.”
