If you had to pick just one weekend to visit Venice, go during the Venice Carnival (this year Jan 27-Feb13).   

It’s a fantastic event with local Italians dressed in colorful, extravagant gowns and costumes roaming, posing and performing all over the island. And there’s no need to simply be a spectator, you can actually take part in this long tradition.

Buy a masquerade mask to wear and join in the fun. Spend some time in Piazza San Marco to watch a free public show, snap some photos of the square, and take-in the amazing views of the Adriatic Sea. 

For the quintessential Venetian experience, make sure to take a gondola ride near the famous Rialto Bridge to get a different perspective of the city. Spend time walking around the island, exploring all its nooks and crannies, while eating all the scrumptious Venetian food along the way.
